Happy Jakuta: Iba Orisha – Yoruba Dances from Cuba (Video)
Yusimi Moya Rodriguez, former dancer of the Conjunto Folklorico Nacional de Cuba, is presenting various Yoruba dances for Orishas at the Susanne Wenger Foundation in the city of Krems, Austria.
The dances include the Orisha Elegba, Ogun, Oshosi, Yemaya, Oshun, Oya, Shango and Obatala.
The artspace is dedicated to the memory of Austrian artist Susanne Wenger, Adunni Olorisha, and her artwork. Wenger moved to Oshogbo, Nigeria, in the 1950, founded the New Sacred Arts movement and is responsible for the preservation of the sacred grove for the Orisha Oshun.
Yusimi Moya Rodriguez is accompanied by Christian Martinek, who plays the three Cuban Batá-drums and is singing in Lukumí, the Cuban version of sacred Yoruba texts. The dance presentation was combined with a theoretical lecture about the different qualities of the Orisha, the Yoruba deities.

Religious discrimination still compromise the maintenance of our rich Culture Heritage. There is need for greater commitment of Oyo State Government with our Yoruba traditional religion, which are part of our cultural identity left by our ancestors and Intangible Heritage.
There is no doubt that Yoruba Civilization is one of the enduring human legacies in the world today and the most suited African Culture to arrest the attention of the world in this era of globalization. The Yoruba civilization unlike others has its system of knowledge and a religion that is today widely accepted and practiced in other parts of the world, especially in the African Diaspora despite the fact that unlike other religions, it does not proselytize.
I have long discovered that Yoruba Cultural Heritage and value system are strong tools in our efforts to promote and utilize cultural diplomacy for development in Africa.
Here I will like to draw a line between cultural influence and cultural diplomacy. Arguably cultural influence could mean the adoption of certain cultural productions of one group by others. It could just be the adoption of visual or performing art traditions of one group by another or the transfer of technology developed by a group to another. However, on the other hand, cultural diplomacy is a deliberate and conscious effort of one group to, without advertising it, impose its own value system on another group for the purpose of using this to establish a relationship. Cultural diplomacy is usually an ideological project of power relations to impose hegemony through value change.
As African we should be creative and think outside the box to reposition our values and use our cultural heritage to our best advantage in a competitive world. A properly package Yoruba Cultural Heritage celebration will no doubt call the attention of the world, which is being widely accepted and practiced in the African Diaspora.
Pursuant to the above I wish to request that Your Excellency show commitment to this cultural diplomacy project by your endorsement of initiatives to move Oyo State up in the global cultural index scale by
• According recognition to Yoruba Religion
• Recognizing Yoruba traditions during State functions and programmes
• Introducing the teaching of Yoruba Religion and Culture to schools in Oyo State.
Your Excellency, Oyo State stands to benefit from the goodwill and interests of an expanding population of practitioners of Yoruba Religion who are today rejecting other faiths and are in need of a religion with which they could connect in their search for identity and spiritual development.

A civilização Yoruba ao contrário de outras tem o seu sistema de conhecimento e uma religião que é hoje amplamente aceite e praticada em outras partes do mundo, especialmente na Diáspora Africana apesar do fato de que, diferentemente de outras religiões, não proselitismo.
Há muito tempo descobriram que Herança Cultural Yoruba e sistema de valores são fortes ferramentas em nossos esforços para promover e utilizar a diplomacia cultural para o desenvolvimento em África.
Aqui eu gostaria de desenhar uma linha entre a influência cultural e diplomacia cultural. Indiscutivelmente a influência cultural pode significar a adopção de determinadas produções culturais de um grupo por outro. Pode ser apenas a adoção de tradições de artes visuais ou realizacao de um grupo por outro ou a transferência de tecnologia desenvolvida por um grupo para outro. No entanto, por outro lado, a diplomacia cultural é um esforço consciente e deliberado de um grupo para, sem anunciá-lo, impor seu próprio sistema de valores em outro grupo com o objetivo de usar isso para estabelecer um relacionamento. A diplomacia cultural é geralmente um projeto ideológico das relações de poder para impor a hegemonia através da mudança de valores.
Como Africano devemos ser criativos e pensar fora da caixa para reposicionar os nossos valores e usar o nosso património cultural para a nossa melhor vantagem em um mundo competitivo. Um pacote corretamente elaborado do Património Cultural Yoruba, sem dúvida, vaui chamar a atenção do mundo, que está sendo amplamente aceite e praticado na diáspora Africana.
